Today, we can often hear people saying: I am depressed, feel stressed and sad. Depression is a state of mind that God has not intended for His children. His plans for us are for good and not for evil. The very fact that you are depressed deeply saddens God, because you are a special and wonderful part of His creation and God desires every His child always be happy and that includes you!

Sadly the fact is that depression is a sad reality of our world and the chaotic world which we live in now has made it very difficult to avoid getting depressed. Today, there is a myriad of factors which can cause depression, and they range from family crises, the death of a loved one, financial crises, feelings of inadequacy, failing at school, losing a job, relationship problems. Sadly this list seems endless and everything appears to be bleak, but good news for everyone is that God is here, and He is going to be with us through these trying periods in life. This internal state “I am depressed” could be changed.

I am depressedTrust – your internal state “I am depressed” may change

We want to show you how God would help you to deal with your depression. The state “I am depressed” someday will change.

Firstly, despite the various causes of depression, person out there has one amazing and beautiful thing in common- we are all children of the God.

Like every good father He has only great plans for us – He wants us to be very happy, succeed in life, feel beautiful in our own skin, have peace of mind and spirit. As a matter of fact,  the list of amazing things He has planned for us are endless, but we cannot access all these plans and promises if we are unprepared to believe in Jesus Christ and open up our hearts to Him.

In John 3:16, the Bible says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”. In this scripture, we see that God has made a promise to mankind, a promise not just to save us from eternal damnation, but also to guide us through the trials and tribulations that we experience here on Earth.

Secondly, it would be silly if we expected that we wouldn’t pass through trials and tribulations because they are a major part of life.

How we deal with these problems really shapes us eventually.  It’s said that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. We know that gold is passed through fire to refine it and it comes out majestic, while paper is passed through fire and it burns.

So the question is, are you gold or paper? As children of God we are all gold and we are expected to pass through fire to be refined and made stronger and this can happen only when we arm ourselves with God’s word and His promises. The fact remains that if we intend to deal with life’s challenges all by ourselves, without the aid and guidance of God, then we would definitely fall apart.

God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our heart, the Scripture is His message to us, His message of love and peace.  If you are depressed and feeling overwhelmed by this chaotic world and problems, then you need to hold on to God through His word. You must always remember that within the Scriptures, there lie several promises which God has made to us, His children, and to activate these promises in our lives, we need to hold on to God’s word and decree these promises into our lives while having strong faith in Him and a solid prayer life.

Thirdly, we need to fully understand that we are not just an ordinary aspect of God’s creation.

In Genesis 1, when God was creating the Universe he simply commanded other things into being, but when it came to creating Adam, there was a verbal statement of our dominion over the Earth. In Genesis 1:26, God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth”.  In verses 27 and 28, God creates man in His own image and then blesses him with fruitfulness, telling him to subdue and replenish the Earth.

God made mankind in His own image and likeness, meaning God has bestowed upon us, not just dominion over the Earth but also over whatsoever problems we might face. God has created us to have a firm and solid foundation in Him and whenever we are overwhelmed and depressed by life, we should always remember that He who created us is fully aware of our problems and would guide us through all them, so long we bring our cares and worries to Him.

In the New Testament God informed us that He cares for the birds of the air who neither own barns nor sow fields but whose daily needs are provided by God, how much more we, who are made in His image and likeness.

So never forget that God is fully aware of the troubles you are facing in life and He very much desires to help you in all what you do.

But you have to turn to Him and place all your cares and worries to His hands.  You need to keep the right company that would keep you in line with Christ, you need to have strong faith in His love for you and believe that His promises are going to be fulfilled in your life. You need to be prayerful and patient, because joy definitely comes in the morning. And your state “I am depressed” will be away.
